James William Tate

December 25, 1957 — February 18, 2022

James William Tate, 64, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, of a heart condition. He was born December 25, 1957, in Bountiful, Utah to Terry and Karen Tate.

He received an associate degree in Plumbing from Utah Technical College and an associate degree in English from the University of Utah. He worked as a plumber, both in the family business of Tate’s Plumbing and for other companies. The latter led him to live in several countries around the world in the latter half of his life.

Jim loved the outdoors and could often be found in the mountains on his motorcycle in the summer and on the ski slopes in the winter. Boating, fishing, and hunting were some of his favorite activities. Jim was also a talented writer who penned scripts, novels, and award-winning short stories. Because of his love of history and travel, he was always up for visiting somewhere new, and adding to his collection of small denomination coins and currency from around the world.

Jim will be remembered as a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather who took great interest in his grandchildren and loved to laugh and joke with them. He loved a challenge and learning every day. His sense of humor and talent for interesting conversation will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Makara Preap, his two daughters, Kirsten Reeder and her husband Mark and their 3 children, and Shaela Gee and her husband Josh and their 5 children. His parents, Terry and Karen Tate, and his siblings DeeAnn, Dave (Tina), Jill (Bob), Mike (Sherrie), Mark (Suzanne) and many nieces and nephews.

A private family viewing will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Russon Mortuary in Bountiful. Interment- Lakeview Cemetery.
